Asia stocks, U.S. futures jump after EU news

LOS ANGELES (MarketWatch) -- Asia stocks turned from mild losses to shoot sharply higher Friday, while U.S. index futures rallied, after European Union leaders announced plans for a single financial supervisor and other measures to shore up the markets there. The Hang Seng Index jumped 2%, while Australia's S&P/ASX 200 rose 1.4%. Japan's Nikkei Average remained on midday break. Meanwhile, U.S. Dow Jones Industrial Average futures rose more than 1% before easing to a 0.8% gain, while the S&P 500 futures were up 0.8%, and those for the Nasdaq Composite added 0.9%.
