Has Redistricting Affected Your Campaign?

Several callers affected by redistricting have asked how this process affects their House campaign's contribution limits and reporting requirements. In FEC Advisory Opinion 1982-22, the Commission ruled that the office of Representative of the United States is defined not by the geographical boundaries of the particular district which elects it but rather by the State which it represents. Thus, a candidate whose district has changed is not entitled to a new contribution limit should the district boundaries change. Although the candidate does not have to set up a new principal campaign committee, he or she must amend FEC Forms 1 and 2 to reflect the new district number within ten days of the completion of the state's redistricting process. http://www.fec.gov/info/TimelyTipsArchi ... ip20120424
