2012 USA Science and Engineering Festival

The Federal Insurance and Mitigation Administration (FIMA) and the Federal Alliance For Safe Homes (FLASH), are partnering at a booth for the USA Science and Engineering Festival in Washington, DC, on April 28 and 29. The theme of the booth, located in Hall C at space 435, is “Engineering Safer Communities, Engineering Safer Homes” for this year’s festival. The booth will feature a hands-on, interactive floodplain management model where kids can get wet while learning about how land use affects flood risk, learn about safe rooms by examining model safe room cutaways, and play a new iPad/iPhone game -- free for download at the festival -- based on the immensely popular StormStruck ride/experience at Walt Disney World’s Epcot Center.

The first festival, in 2010, brought together 2,000 hands-on science activities and over 100 stage shows and performances. This year’s festival, the second, will be held at the Walter E. Washington Convention Center in Washington. About 100,000 people are expected to participate. The USA Science & Engineering Festival is the country’s only national science festival, and was developed to increase public awareness of the importance of science and to encourage youth to pursue careers in science and engineering by celebrating science.
