Hoyer Statement on House Democratic Budget



WASHINGTON, DC - House Democratic Whip Steny H. Hoyer (MD) released the following statement today on House Democrats' budget alternative for fiscal year 2013, introduced by Budget Committee Ranking Member Chris Van Hollen:
“After seeing the disastrous Republican budget put forward last week, which would end the Medicare guarantee and increase costs for seniors, destroy jobs, and cut taxes for the wealthy at the expense of the middle class, Americans want a budget that works for all of us. The Democratic budget proposal does just that by preserving the Medicare guarantee, investing in a strong economy, taking a balanced approach to setting us on a sustainable fiscal path, and asking everyone to pitch in toward investing in America's future. It is the right budget to meet the challenges we face.
“The Democratic budget proposal will make the investments we need to restore the promise of our American Dream and grow the middle class. It will invest in education, innovation, infrastructure, and energy security. It preserves our commitment to the veterans who have served our nation in uniform and provides our troops with the tools they need to keep us safe. This budget will help further our recovery, as it will strengthen our economic competitiveness for years to come. This will help create the environment of certainty our businesses need to invest, expand, and create jobs.
