WASHINGTON (MarketWatch) -- Senators voted 73 to 26 on Thursday to approve a bill making it easier for small companies to raise capital. The bill, which passed the House on March 8, scraps a ban on small businesses using ads to attract investors; raises the offering threshold for companies exempted from Securities and Exchange Commission registration; and relaxes other regulations. The bill was amended to strengthen some investor protections and now goes back to the House for a final vote.
