Hoyer Statement on Keystone XL Pipeline

WASHINGTON, DC - House Democratic Whip Steny H. Hoyer (MD) released the following statement today on President Obama's announcement of an expedited review process for the southern portion of the Keystone XL pipeline:
“Today’s announcement by the President of an expedited review process for the southern portion of the Keystone XL pipeline builds on the ‘all-of-the-above’ strategy for energy savings his Administration has pursued. Since the President was sworn into office, domestic production of oil and natural gas has increased, while the importation of foreign oil has fallen to less than half of what we consume. During the same period, 75,000 jobs have been created in the oil and gas sector.
“At the same time, the President has put forward bold proposals for energy savings, including fuel efficiency standards and investments in advanced vehicle and energy efficiency technologies that mirror what House Democrats have promoted through our Make It In America plan for job growth and economic competitiveness. While many Republicans continue to favor a 'drill-only' approach to energy, Democrats will continue to implement an ‘all-of-the-above’ strategy that will help bring costs down for businesses and families and invest in our long-term energy security.”
