France to host financial summit

PARIS, France (CNN) — Experts and political leaders will gather in Paris
in January for an international summit aimed at finding solutions to the global
financial crisis, the French government said Tuesday.

French President Nicolas Sarkozy and former British Prime Minister Tony
Blair will chair the summit on January 8 and 9. The event will include “top
political leaders” and prominent economic experts including Joseph Stiglitz,
Amartya Sen, Francis Fukuyama, and Jean Paul Fitoussi, the government said.”We are living in a crucial period for our economy and our social
values,” Sarkozy said in a statement. “More than ever we must demonstrate that
we can propose concrete solutions to the challenges that we are currently faced
with.”

France is currently holding the rotating presidency of the European
Union. The Czech Republic takes over the six-month presidency in January.

“At a time when we are attempting to rethink a new model of capitalism
and redefine present day values which will help us adapt to globalization, this
event will bring an essential contribution,” Blair said in a statement.
