MUMBAI, India (CNN) – More than 40 hours after gunmen took over the Oberoi Hotel, police rescued the remaining hostages, evacuated guests and cleared it of militants Friday afternoon, a police official said.

But standoffs continued at another luxury hotel, the Taj Mahal — where one gunmen is still holed up — and the Chabad House, where several Jews are believed to be held hostage by two to three gunmen.

Two terrorists were killed in the Oberoi operation, said J.K. Dutt, the National Security Guard’s director-general. Authorities found six bodies on a staircase at the hotel, but their identities were not yet determined, Dutt said.

Altogether, 30 bodies have been recovered from the Oberoi hotel premises, which also includes a hotel connected by a common corridor, the Trident, said Mumbai police Commissioner Hussain Gafoor.
