Hoyer on the Nomination of Gov. Bill Richardson as Secretary of Commerce

WASHINGTON, DC – House Majority Leader Steny H. Hoyer (MD) released the following statement today after President-elect Obama held a news conference announcing Governor Bill Richardson (D-NM) as his choice for Secretary of Commerce:

“The economic crisis has hit workers and businesses hard, with rising unemployment and a frozen credit market, making it especially critical that President-elect Obama choose leaders for his economic team who will help him address the nation’s pressing needs.

“Today, the President-elect made another wise decision in nominating Governor Bill Richardson as Secretary of Commerce. Governor Richardson has shown through his strong record of leadership that he has the ability to form a lasting partnership with the business community in order to create new jobs and help our economic recover. I welcome this addition to President-elect Obama’s diverse and talented team.”
