Illinois AG asks court to act on governor
Posted: 01:15 PM ET
CHICAGO, Illinois (CNN) — The Illinois attorney general announced Friday she has asked the state Supreme Court to temporarily remove Gov. Rod Blagojevich from office or to strip him of gubernatorial powers.
“This morning my office filed pleadings with the Illinois Supreme Court requesting that Gov. Blagojevich be temporarily removed from office,” said Lisa Madigan.
“In the alternative, we have asked that the Illinois Supreme Court declare that he is prevented from filling the U.S. Senate vacancy,” as well from acting on legislation, directing activities of the Illinois Finance Authority, directing activities of the Illinois State Toll Highway Authority and directing the disbursement of state funds, she said.
She is also seeking to have Lt. Gov. Pat Quinn appointed as acting governor, she said.
