WASHINGTON (CNN) — Flight restrictions imposed over Washington following the September 11, 2001, terrorist attacks — and enforced ever since — are now permanent.
The Federal Aviation Administration issued a final rule Monday, saying the restrictions, which ban almost all private aircraft from flying over the city center and national landmarks, will protect the region from an aerial assault.
But at least one pilot organization criticized the changes, calling them onerous, disappointing and unjustified.
