UK to send more troops to Afghanistan

LONDON, England (CNN) — Britain will send an additional 300 troops to Afghanistan, Prime Minister Gordon Brown said Monday.

The country will increase its troop level from just over 8,000 to around 8,300 in advance of Afghan elections scheduled for next year, he told parliament.

He urged other NATO countries to share the burden of bringing stability to Afghanistan, which he visited last week.
