Iraqi lawmakers to vote on last-minute troop compromise

BAGHDAD, Iraq (CNN) — Iraq’s Parliament is expected Monday to vote on a resolution that would extend the presence of foreign troops in the country after the end of the year, Iraqi lawmakers told CNN Sunday.
The vote will come less than 10 days before the United Nations resolution underpinning the presence of foreign troops expires.
Iraq has already signed a bilateral agreement to allow United States
troops to stay past December 31 — under tighter restrictions than they now face — but other countries’ forces could be left with no legal cover for their presence in Iraq if parliament does not act swiftly.
