FBI whistleblower levels allegations in Stevens trial

WASHINGTON (CNN) — An unnamed FBI whistleblower has leveled serious allegations against prosecutors in the trial of outgoing Senator Ted Stevens, R-Alaska, prompting Stevens’ lawyer to declare the guilty verdict should be thrown out.

The alleged problems cited include not turning over evidence to the defense team, and what was described as an inappropriate relationship between someone with the government and the prosecution’s star witness Bill Allen.

The federal court in Washington where Stevens was found guilty of improperly accepting hundreds of thousands of dollars in gifts released a document late Monday providing some insight into the whistleblower allegations.
