Madoff under tightened house arrest

NEW YORK (CNN) — Investment guru Bernard Madoff — accused of bilking investors out of some $50 billion — remains in his Manhattan apartment after a judge tightened conditions on his confinement.
Madoff, 70, is being held under 24-hour house arrest, to be lifted only for court appearances, according to court documents signed Friday by U.S. Magistrate Judge Theodore Katz. He will remain under electronic monitoring, and video cameras will be trained on his apartment, with security guards in place to ensure Madoff’s both complies with the bail conditions and remains free from harm.
The $10 million bail has been secured by Madoff’s Manhattan apartment, as well as properties in Montauk, New York, and Palm Beach, Florida, owned by his wife.
