House Majority Leader's Statement on Jobs Report “« Thread Started on Dec 9, 2007, 12:10am » --------------------------------------------------------------------------------House Majority Leader's Statement on Jobs Report “Bush Economy Sowing Insecurity,” Says Hoyer WASHINGTON, DC – House Majority Leader Steny Hoyer (MD), who is meeting today with Democratic leaders and national experts on economic and financial issues at an economic forum, released the following statement this morning:“Today’s jobs report is just another indication that our economy, under President Bush, continues to muddle along, while millions of Americans are afflicted with economic insecurity and grappling with rising health care costs, gas prices and college costs and stagnating household income.“The economy’s addition of 94,000 jobs in November is certainly a positive development for those Americans who secured employment. But the truth is, the economy needs to add 150,000 jobs a month just to keep pace with population growth. So, this jobs report can best be described as tepid.“Democrats in Congress will continue to focus on the economic priorities of the American people. This year, we have enacted the largest increase in college aid since the GI Bill, and passed legislation to address the subprime mortgage crisis, and to reduce our dependence on foreign sources of oil and save consumers money at the pump. Our work is not finished, and today we are meeting with leading experts to discuss the real concerns about our long-term economic health – including the spiraling deficits and debt that have been instigated by this Administration’s fiscally irresponsible policies – and possible policy responses.” ###
