It may be remembered more for majority Democrats reasserting their power against a Republican governor than for laws cutting taxes, fighting global warming and creating tech jobs. Hawaii Democrats overrode eight of Governor Lingle's vetoes, some of which create laws reducing her authority. In addition, they rejected two of her Cabinet nominees, including natural resources head Peter Young over claims he mismanaged his department.
