Some House Democrats are not happy that Monica Goodling, the aide to AG Gonzales who refused to testify in a public hearing on the U.S. Attorney mess, and they want to question her to evaluate the legality of her taking the Fifth. Here’s the story from the NYT; click here, here and here for background on Goodling. “We are concerned that several of the asserted grounds for refusing to testify do not satisfy the well established bases for a proper invocation of the Fifth Amendment against self-incrimination,” said a letter from House Judiciary chair John Conyers. “The Fifth Amendment privilege, under longstanding Supreme Court precedents, does not provide a reason to fail to appear to testify; the privilege must be invoked by the witness on a question-by-question basis.”read at source> http://blogs.wsj.com/law/2007/04/04/con ... ----------
