Democrats consider resisting tax bill« Thread Started on Apr 14, 2007, 8:25am » --------------------------------------------------------------------------------Democrats consider resisting tax billBrunswick County party to discuss resolution at weekend conventionBy Steve JonesThe Sun Newsread at source> http://www.myrtlebeachonline.com/mld/my ... mSHALLOTTE, N.C. - Brunswick County, N.C., Democrats are to consider two resolutions at their convention Saturday, one of which would oppose county commissioners' desires for new sources of revenue to help build roads."There needs to be some kind of needs assessment," Vernon Ward, Brunswick County Democratic Party chairman, said of the commissioners' drive to find some local funding to help spur road construction.The resolution to oppose a legislative bill giving all counties a menu of new taxes, including impact and property transfer fees, is to be considered at the party's convention scheduled to begin at 3 p.m. Saturday at Democratic Party headquarters on Old Ocean Highway near Brunswick Community College.The Democratic convention follows the Brunswick Republican Party convention by two weeks. Republicans elected Frank Iler of Oak Island to a full two-year term as chairman.
