Although the Democrats' vote to censure President Bush's policy in Iraq is couched with the usual caveats that there is no intention to harm the standing of US forces, it is a much-needed corrective. For too long US policy in Iraq has gone unquestioned, and when doubts have been raised they have been dismissed as unpatriotic and bad for morale. Coming on top of opinionpollswhichshowthatthe majority of Americans are now deeply uneasy with what is being done in their name in the streets of Baghdad, this is awelcomesignofamuch-needed reassessment of US policy.
