WASHINGTON (CNN) -- A U.S. victory in Iraq is no longer possible under the conditions the Bush administration hopes to achieve, but a quick withdrawal of American troops would have "disastrous consequences," former Secretary of State Henry Kissinger said Sunday.President Bush has said the United States will remain in Iraq until the country's government "can sustain itself and defend itself," and a top Iraqi official disputed Kissinger's assessment of the three-year-old war in an interview with CNN.But in a BBC interview Sunday morning, Kissinger said the U.S. course needs to be redefined -- and the breakup of Iraq could be the eventual outcome.Link to Post - Back to Top Logged botAdministratormember is online www.usdemocrats.com Joined: Mar 2004Posts: 9,167Location: wwwRe: Kissinger: Victory in Iraq no longer possible« Reply #1 on Nov 20, 2006, 7:33am » --------------------------------------------------------------------------------US Victory can be achieved if the us involves alot more of the international community.. imo they could withdraw from most towns and villages secure a stable and total green zone in Baghdad for international diplomats , and the majority of the armed forces there can secure baghdad, the airport and highway as an extended green zone .. this would not be considered giving any concession or retreat and winning popular world support would be significant and change alot of things forward and establishing towards a stable democratic government in iraq would progress there would be alot of positive moves available with reducing the insurgency america can still do well
