Assistant U.S. attorney to handle election fraud complaints« Thread Started on Oct 20, 2006, 4:52pm » --------------------------------------------------------------------------------Assistant U.S. attorney to handle election fraud complaintsread at source: http://savannahnow.com/node/161415Jan Skutch | Friday, October 20, 2006 at 12:30 am Jay Weimer's work will be part of the Justice Department's Ballot Access and Voting Integrity initiative, established in 2002.Assistant U.S. Attorney Jay Weimer has been appointed to serve on a committee to guard against election fraud, U.S. Attorney Lisa Godbey Wood said.In his role as District Election Officer for the Southern District of Georgia, Weimer will be responsible for overseeing the handling of complaints of election fraud and voting rights abuses in the region, Wood said in a press release.His work will be part of the Justice Department's Ballot Access and Voting Integrity initiative, established Oct. 8, 2002, Wood said.The goal is to increase the department's ability to deter election fraud and discrimination at the polls and to prosecute offenders. That translates "to make voting easier and cheating harder," according to the statement.The program is also intended to ensure public confidence in the election process' integrity.
