We want diplomatic solution to Iran: Bush to PM« Thread Started on Jun 4, 2006, 10:06pm »--------------------------------------------------------------------------------We want diplomatic solution to Iran: Bush to PMEmail Print Normal font Large font June 3, 2006 - 2:14PMread source: http://www.smh.com.au/news/world/we-wan ... 086.htmlUS President George Bush has told Australian Prime Minister John Howard that America wants a diplomatic solution to Iran.A spokesman for Mr Howard said the prime minister spoke to Mr Bush last night on a number of issues including Iran's plans for a uranium enrichment program.He said Mr Bush said the decision by the five permanent members of the United Nations (P5) to agree to tackle Iran's nuclear plans, was a breakthrough."The president highlighted the importance of the agreement struck by the P5 and Germany to push ahead on a solution to the Iran issue," he said.The spokesman also said that Mr Bush told the prime minister that the US wanted a diplomatic solution to the problem."The president also stressed that the priority for the US was to reach a diplomatic solution," he said.A spokesman for Mr Howard said both leaders agreed Iraqi Prime Minister Nuri al-Maliki had done a good job since he was appointed in early 2006."They also spoke about the latest developments in Iraq," he said."The president said it was important that the new government assert its authority and both leaders agreed that the new prime minister had made a good start."The pair also spoke about the situation in East Timor, the spokesman said."The prime minister then briefed the president on developments in East Timor," he said.AAP
