Let's remind him:Bush: "Of course we're meeting our obligation to our veterans, and the veterans know that… Veterans are getting very good health care under my administration, and they will continue to do so during the next four years."It's a promise Bush isn't keeping. Earlier this month, Bush proposed a budget that would charge a user fee for veterans simply to enroll in the VA health care system. He also sought to double prescription drug co-pays for veterans. Bush has tried to pass these same proposals in each of the past two years, but Democrats have beat back the proposals both times. But the Republicans in Congress are taking the 2004 election as a mandate to renew their efforts to raise veterans' heath care costs. The chairman of the Senate Veterans Affairs Committee Larry Craig (R-ID) said that "I intend to consider these proposals afresh." and Rep. Steve Buyer (R-IN), his counterpart in the House, agreed, saying he "saw the proposals as a way to 'bring balance, fairness and equity into the system.'"Read on to learn what veterans think of the Republicans' desire to balance the budget on the backs of those who laid their lives on the line for our country:Read more...http://www.democrats.org/blog/display/00011606.html
