appalled at the Democratic leaders' silence« Thread Started on Nov 5, 2004, 2:25am » --------------------------------------------------------------------------------I'm really appalled at the Democratic leaders' silence on the whole e-voting machine fraud issue. The facts speak for themselves. Kerry had a clear lead in the exit polls from both Florida and Ohio. There were touchscreen voting machines that provided no paper trail in operation in both of those states. The 'official' vote in favor of the Republicans bore no resemblance whatsoever to the exit polls. The CEO of the company that manufactures those machines promised to deliver votes for Bush.I don't know who won the election. I do know that it is an outrage that Democratic leaders are remaining silent about this. Even if we DID lose the election, it could hardly have been closer. If either Florida or Ohio flips, John Kerry is President-Elect. There is no need to radically change our message or to shoot our messengers. There should be no crying in our beer. There should be no throwing in the towel. We must stand up and fight for our democracy. If 'separate but equal' doesn't work for our schools, it sure as he*l doesn't work for our votes. Touchscreen machines are fine, as long as they produce a paper trail (ideally printing out a ballot that is dropped in a ballot box after the voter has a chance to review it.)If the Democratic party doesn't raise hell about this, we might as well give up. It won't matter if we get 70% of the votes if the voting machine is a black box and there is no accountability.
