George Bush: 'Miscalculations' on Health Care« Thread Started on Sept 6, 2004, 6:51pm » --------------------------------------------------------------------------------Kerry-Edwards 2004 -- George Bush: 'Miscalculations' on Health Care8/30/2004 4:49:00 PM --------------------------------------------------------------------------------To: National Desk, Political Reporter Contact: Chad Clanton or Phil Singer, Both of Kerry-Edwards 2004, 202-464-2800; Web: http://www.johnkerry.com WASHINGTON, Aug. 30 /U.S. Newswire/ -- The following was released today by Kerry-Edwards 2004:Since George W. Bush has nothing to say about health care since costs have soared, he is now resorting to misleading attacks on John Kerry's health care plan in a desperate attempt to scare voters. The fact is that John Kerry's health care plan will decrease premiums for families by up to $1,000 and expand coverage for 95 percent of Americans, including children -- without mandates or nationalizing health care. His plan focuses on strengthening and building on the employer-based health care system and Children's Health Insurance Program.Spokesperson Phil Singer said: "George Bush not only miscalculates, he also misleads. The only thing the Kerry health care plan does is cover 27 million people and help businesses cover the extraordinary expenses that they have incurred as a result of costs skyrocketing during George Bush's presidency. The Bush plan is incomplete and exaggerated. Bush's health plan picks winners and losers: If you're a family getting hit by skyrocketing costs or high insurance rates, you lose. If you're a drug company or big insurance company, you win."JOHN KERRY'S HEALTH CARE PLANVoluntary participation without federal mandates. John Kerry's health care plan builds on, strengthens, and makes more affordable and private and public group insurance already in existence. Provides relief for businesses who provide health care. The Kerry health care plan lowers premiums for families by up to $1,000 by paying for highest cost medical cases.Gives tax credits to workers and access to coverage. It provides more than $177 billion in tax credits -- more than twice as generous as Bush's health care tax proposals -- to make coverage more affordable. And it gives those without coverage more choices by allowing them to get the same coverage Members of Congress receive -- at affordable prices. HEALTH CARE COSTS SKYROCKETING:What have Americans gotten for Bush's last four years in office? Health care costs have skyrocketed with American families paying 49 percent more than they did four years ago. The typical health care premium has increased more than $2600 a year and 5 million more Americans have no health insurance coverage. The fact is that Americans can't afford another four years of Bush's health care policies. $2,630 Estimated Total Family Premium Increase. In the United States, the total family premium for health insurance has increased by $2,630 to $9,068. Out-of-pocket costs and prescription drug prices have also dramatically increased under Bush. (Kaiser/HRET Survey of Employer-Sponsored Health Benefits, 2003)5.2 million more Americans without health insurance under President Bush -- 1.4 million in the last year alone. In 2003, an additional 1.4 million people joined the ranks of the uninsured. There are 5.2 million more people without health insurance than in 2000. In total, 45 million people are uninsured. ---http://www.usnewswire.com/-0
