Military Families Speak Out« Thread Started on Sept 17, 2004, 9:42pm » --------------------------------------------------------------------------------http://www.mfso.org/Military Families Speak Out is an organization of people who are opposed to war in Iraq and who have relatives or loved ones in the military. We were formed in November of 2002 and have contacts with military families throughout the United States, and in other countries around the world. As people with family members and loved ones in the military, we have both a special need and a unique role to play in speaking out against war in Iraq. It is our loved ones who are, or have been, or will be on the battlefront. It is our loved ones who are risking injury and death. It is our loved ones who are returning scarred from their experiences. It is our loved ones who will have to live with the injuries and deaths among innocent Iraqi civilians. If you have family members or loved ones in the military and you are opposed to this war, join us. Send us an e-mail at mfso@mfso.org Military Families Speak Out **News Advisory for Tuesday, September 14, 2004** Press contact: Michelle Mulkey, 415-901-0111 or 415-987-7377 Mike Smith or Parker Blackman, 415-901-0111 National Guard Families Confront Bush Policies at Press Conference as President Speaks to National Guard Association in Las Vegas (Las Vegas, NV)—Hours before President Bush gives a speech at the convention of the National Guard Association of the United States in Las Vegas, families whose loved ones are in the National Guard in Iraq, have served in Iraq or have been killed in Iraq will speak at a news conference in Las Vegas. As mounting questions about Bush's own service in the National Guard continue, several military families will tell their stories and confront the administration for its betrayal of National Guard soldiers who signed up to “stay at home and serve their country” but were sent overseas to fight a war based on lies. Despite the administration's rhetoric about supporting the troops, the families will tell stories of National Guard soldiers sent into a war that should never have happened, extended beyond their expected return date and denied proper training and equipment. At the news conference, sponsored by Military Families Speak Out, families are also expected to highlight the irony that the President, who joined the National Guard to avoid combat duty during the Vietnam War, now sends the National Guard to fight a war in a country that was not a threat to the United States. These National Guard Families will also call for an end to the occupation in Iraq, for all troops to return to their home duty stations, and for troops to receive the care they need when they get home. WHAT: WHEN: WHERE: Las Vegas news conference with National Guard families. Tuesday, September 14 at 10:30am local time. The Las Vegas Hilton, Conference Room 7. 3000 Paradise Rd., Las Vegas, NV 89109. The Las Vegas Hilton is next door to the convention center where President Bush will address the National Guard Association at approximately 12:20pm. WASHINGTON, DC - On Tuesday, September 7, 2004 a tragic milestone has been reached: 1,000 U.S. troops have been killed in a war that should not have happened. The two primary justifications used by the Bush Administration to take this nation into war -- weapons of mass destruction and a link between Al Qaida and Saddam Hussein - have proven to be false. Each, day, week and month that this reckless military misadventure continues, the death toll goes higher. As this day of the 1,000th troop death is reached, Military Families Speak Out honors all who have fallen. We remember all the U.S. service men and women who have died as a result of the U.S. invasion and occupation of Iraq; the many thousands of Iraqi men, women and children who have died as a result of this war in Iraq; and the fact that these deaths have occurred in a war that is unjust and unjustifiable. Military Families Speak Out -- an organization of well over 1,600 families with loved ones in the military, including those who have been killed in Iraq, who are currently serving in Iraq, or who are about to deploy to Iraq -- calls on the Bush Administration and on the United States Congress to BRING OUR TROOPS HOME NOW! Our loved ones signed up to protect and defend Country and Constitution - not to be put in harm's way for oil markets and dreams of empire. As we honor the fallen, we call on the Administration to stop betraying our troops, their families and this nation! Not one more death in a war based on lies. Military Families who have lost loved ones in Iraq, whose loved ones are currently deployed to Iraq or are deploying to Iraq; and the co-founders of Military Families Speak Out are available for interview. ### Download a PDF Copy of the Press Release, including the list of families Available for Interview
