SCOTUS Rules Warrant Needed for GPS Tracking
The Supreme Court ruled that the use of a GPS device to monitor one suspect's car over an extended period of time, qualifies as a search under the Fourth Amendment, which would require a warrant. Justice Scalia explained in the majority opinion that electronic surveillance, if achieved without trespassing on the suspected person's property, could count as an unconstitutional invasion of privacy. But he goes on to say that the present case does not require the justices to answer that question
