MADRID (MarketWatch) -- The International Monetary Fund said Wednesday that it would like to raise an additional $500 billion in lending resources. In a statement, an IMF spokesman said the organization estimates global potential financing needs of about $1 trillion in coming years. The $500 billion figure includes the recent European commitment of $200 billion in increased resources. "At this preliminary stage, we are exploring options on funding and will have no further comment until the necessary consultations with the Fund's membership have been completed." The IMF comments confirmed media reports earlier in the day, which said it was looking to boost lending.
