SAN FRANCISCO (MarketWatch) -- Sears Holdings surged on Wednesday to become one of the best performers on the S&P 500 . Shares of the retailer had lost more than one-third of its value after announcing in late December that it will close 100 to 120 Kmart and Sears stores due to poor sales.
