Democrats’ Holiday Wish List – Calling on GOP To Focus on Jobs, Deficit Reduction

As we look back on the first session of the 112th Congress, it’s clear that Republicans have taken little action on Americans top priorities: job creation, economic growth, and deficit reduction. With Christmas just a couple of weeks away and millions of children sending their Christmas lists to Santa, Democrats have put together our own wish list for next year:
All Democrats want for Christmas is for Republicans…
To abandon their partisan agenda and stop wasting time on bills that won’t create jobs or put our country on a fiscally sustainable path, such as:
Passing a budget that ends Medicare and attempts to balance the budget on the backs of seniors and the middle class, while giving tax cuts to the wealthiest Americans
Attempting to roll back workers’ rights
Attempting to leave consumers and the U.S. financial system vulnerable to the risks that led to the 2008 financial crisis and resulted in record job loss
Attempting to restrict women’s health care access
Increasing uncertainty for businesses by adding hurdles to the regulatory process, and undermining consumer and environmental protections
Repealing patient protections and putting insurance companies back in control of health care
To work with Democrats on bipartisan proposals to put Americans back to work, such as the Make It In America plan, which aims to support job creation by cultivating an encouraging environment for businesses to innovate and make products here in the U.S.
To take meaningful action on the deficit by working with Democrats on a big, bold, balanced package to reduce the deficit, create jobs, strengthen entitlements and ensure all Americans pay their fair share.
Republicans won’t be able to accomplish all of this in time for the holidays, but they owe America some major IOUs, so we hope they will return in January ready to get serious about tackling our nation’s most pressing challenges. It’s time for them to abandon their ideological stance and work with us to put Americans back to work, grow the economy and restore fiscal responsibility.
