Sen. Merkley gives the status of the financial reform bill. He's a sponsor of the Levin/Merkley amendment, which would prohibit banks from high-risk speculative trading and bar firms from betting against their customers. Sen. Merkley also introduced an amendment that would ban mortgage lenders from receiving hidden payments when they steer homeowners into high-cost loans and will require lenders to ensure that borrowers have the ability to repay their loans.
