Navy Secretary Ray Mabus was one of the featured speakers at a discussion hosted by the Truman National Security Project. In his remarks he said the military must invest in alternative fuel in order to deal with future price shocks and budget constraints. The Navy had set a goal of getting half its energy from alternative fuels by 2020.
