Europe stocks swing higher after U.S. data
MADRID (MarketWatch) -- European stock markets turned higher on Thursday, shaking off earlier losses after U.S. data showed weekly jobless claims dropped to the lowest level since April. Meanwhile, second-quarter gross domestic product was revised higher to show 1.3% growth. The Stoxx Europe 600 index rose 0.9% to 229.42, while the German DAX 30 index gained 1.3% to 5,653.62 and the French CAC 40 index rose 1.5% to 3,040.98. The FTSE 100 index rose 0.1% to 5,224.72. Banks and drug stocks led the gainers.
