NRC NAMES NEW SENIOR RESIDENT INSPECTOR ATBEAVER VALLEY NUCLEAR POWER PLANTNuclear Regulatory Commission officials in King of Prussia, Pa., haveselected David Spindler as the new Senior Resident Inspector at the Beaver Valley nuclear power plant in Shippingport, Pa. He joins Resident Inspector Erin Bonney at the two-unit site operated by First Energy Nuclear OperatingCompany. Spindler joined the NRC in October 2006 as a boiling-water reactor training specialist at the NRC’s Professional Development Center in Bethesda, Md. Most recently, he was the Senior Resident Inspector at Vermont Yankee nuclear plant in Vernon, Vt. He also was a Resident Inspector at Beaver Valley.Prior to joining the NRC, Spindler worked as a software specialist, a control room supervisor and a shift manager at the FitzPatrick nuclear power plant. He also worked forGeneral Physics Corp. in Pottstown, Pa., and served in the U.S. Navy as a reactor operator. Spindler earned a bachelor’s degree from the University of Maryland and a master’s degree in business administration from Syracuse University.“Dave Spindler has an extensive technical background, and he has demonstrated thededication to safety to carry out NRC’s commitment to protect people and the environment,”NRC Region I Administrator Bill Dean said. Each U.S. commercial nuclear power plant has at least two NRC Resident Inspectors.They serve as the agency’s eyes and ears at the facility, conducting inspections, monitoringmajor work projects and interacting with plant workers and the public.
