NRC MEETINGS IN MARYLAND, ILLINOIS AND CALIFORNIA TO DISCUSSLONG-TERM STORAGE OF SPENT NUCLEAR FUELThe Nuclear Regulatory Commission staff will conduct three public meetings inRockville, Md., Oakbrook Terrace, Ill., and San Luis Obispo, Calif., to discuss issues relating to the long-term storage of spent nuclear fuel from commercial power reactors.The meetings are intended to inform and engage the public on the NRC’s plans to tackletechnical and regulatory issues related to extended storage of spent fuel, and on plans to develop a draft environmental impact statement for an update of the NRC’s waste confidence decisionand rule.The first meeting will be held Sept. 28 in the Two White Flint North BuildingAuditorium at NRC headquarters in Rockville, Md., from 10 a.m.-4 p.m. Eastern Time. Thesecond meeting will be held Oct. 4 at the Hilton Garden Inn, 1000 Drury Lane, in Oakbrook Terrace, from 9:30 a.m.-3:15 p.m. Central Time. The third will be held on Oct. 6 at the EmbassySuites San Luis Obispo, 333 Madonna Rd., in San Luis Obispo, from 9:30 a.m.-3:15 p.m. PacificTime.The public may participate in the Rockville meeting on Sept. 28 by teleconference.
