Democrats Urge Republicans to Pass Compromise Bill to Provide Disaster Aid and Keep Our Government Running

MESSAGE FROM THE DEMOCRATIC WHIP
This week I was disappointed that House Republicans played partisan games with a bill to fund the government and provide relief to those affected by recent disasters. Rather than work with Democrats on a bipartisan basis, Republicans pursued a partisan bill that puts both tens of thousands of jobs and disaster relief at risk. And when they failed to pass their bill the first time, Republicans chose to make their bill even more extreme rather than working with Democrats to reach a compromise to keep government open and provide needed disaster relief.
Now Republicans are heading back to their districts this evening for a week-long break without finishing our work. This is irresponsible and puts disaster assistance at risk for people who need it, and risks a possible government shut down. The Senate is voting on a compromise bill next week that will provide disaster aid and keep our government running. I hope House Republicans will abandon their partisan agenda and work with us to reach a compromise that will fund the government and help our communities rebuild in the wake of recent disasters.
Sincerely yours,

STENY H. HOYER
