U.S. crime volume falls again: FBI
CHICAGO (MarketWatch) -- Even in the middle of the economic downturn, crime levels fell again last year for the fourth time in a row, the Federal Bureau of Investigation said Monday. Nationwide, the estimated volume of crime fell 6% in 2010. The report, compiled from data submitted by more than 18,000 law enforcement agencies, covers the number of murders and non-negligent manslaughters, forcible rapes, robberies, aggravated assaults, burglaries, larceny-thefts, motor vehicle thefts, and arson. Violent offenses were all down, but the largest decrease was robbery, which slipped 10%. The total number of crimes reported stood at just over 10.3 million, with 1.3 million violent crimes and 9 million property crimes.
