NRC TO HOLD PREDECISIONAL ENFORCEMENT CONFERENCEWITH INTERNATIONAL CYCLOTRON, INC.The Nuclear Regulatory Commission staff will hold a predecisional enforcement conferencewith representatives of International Cyclotron, Inc., on August 30 to discuss an apparent violation of NRC regulations regarding the company’s failure to meet decommissioning funding and financial assurance requirements. The Company, located in San Juan, Puerto Rico, produces fluorine-18 in a cyclotron formedical uses. NRC regulations require certain licensees to provide a decommissioning funding plan and financial assurance for decommissioning. Despite numerous attempts by NRC since December2009 to ensure that these requirements were met, International Cyclotron, Inc., has failed to demonstrate compliance with either requirement. The conference will begin at 10 a.m. in the Public Meeting Room at the NRC’s Region Ioffice, 475 Allendale Road, in King of Prussia, Pa. During the conference, the company will havean opportunity to address the apparent violation. The public is invited to observe the meeting. The decision to hold a predecisional enforcement conference does not mean that a final determination has been made that violations have occurred or that enforcement action will betaken. The conference is an opportunity for the company to provide its perspective on the apparent violation, to discuss its corrective actions, and to offer other information they believe the NRCshould take into consideration in making an enforcement decision. No decision on the apparent violation or any contemplated enforcement action, such as a civil penalty, will be made at the conference. Those decisions will be made by NRC officials at alater time. ###
