NRC ASSIGNS RESIDENT INSPECTOR TO ROBINSON NUCLEAR POWER PLANTNuclear Regulatory Commission officials in Atlanta have selected Christian Scott as the resident inspector for Progress Energy’s Robinson nuclear power plant, located near Hartsville, S.C., 26 miles northwest of Florence. Scott joins acting senior resident inspector Tim Chandlerwho is filling in for Jim Hickey. Hickey is on a temporary assignment in Atlanta until October.Scott joined the NRC in June 2006 as a reactor engineer in theNuclear Safety Professional Development Program in the NRC’s Region III office in Lisle, Ill. He served as a reactor engineer in the Region IIIDivision of Reactor Projects until he was selected as the Robinson plant’s resident inspector.Scott received a bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineeringfrom Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute in Troy, N.Y., in 2005. Scott also received a bachelor’sdegree in applied physics from Morehouse College in Atlanta in 2006. Following graduation, Scott entered the NRC’s Nuclear Safety Professional Development Program.“Christian Scott has the expertise and commitment to safety to help the NRC ensure theRobinson plant is operated safely, protecting the public and the environment,” said NRC Region II Administrator Victor McCree. At least two NRC resident inspectors are assigned to each U.S. commercial nuclear plant. They serve as the agency's eyes and ears at the facility, conducting inspections, monitoring majorwork projects and interacting with plant workers and the public.
