NRC ISSUES LICENSE FOR THE LOST CREEKIN SITU URANIUM RECOVERY PROJECT IN WYOMINGThe Nuclear Regulatory Commission has issued a license to Lost Creek ISR, LLC to construct and operate the proposed Lost Creek in situ uranium recovery project in Sweetwater County, Wyoming. Lost Creek ISR, LLC submitted the license application for the Lost Creek project in a letter dated March 30, 2008. The project is to be located in the northern portion of the Great Divide Basin in Sweetwater County, approximately 42 miles northwest of Rawlins, Wyo. Theproject will cover nearly 4,220 acres, of which approximately 320 acres will be directly affected by operations. The project will recover and mill uranium for use in fuel for commercial nuclear power plants. The NRC published its Supplemental Environmental Impact Statement for the Lost Creek project on June 24. That report determined that there were no major environmental impacts that would preclude issuing the license. The Lost Creek SEIS, NUREG-1910 Supplement 3, is available on the NRC website. The staff has also completed its Safety Evaluation Report, which will be available in the agency’s ADAMS online database by searching for ML112231724. More information about the Lost Creek project and in situ uranium recovery is availableon the NRC website.###
