U.S. formally backs Lagarde for IMF chief
WASHINGTON (Reuters) - The United States supports French Finance Minister Christine Lagarde to take over as the new chief of the International Monetary Fund, Treasury Secretary Timothy Geithner said in a statement on Tuesday.
