Assistant Secretary for African Affairs Johnnie Carson to Lead U.S. Presidential Delegation to Nigerian Inauguration

Assistant Secretary for African Affairs Johnnie Carson will travel to Nigeria May 27-30 to lead the U.S. Presidential Delegation to the country’s Inauguration Ceremony scheduled for Sunday, May 29.
Assistant Secretary Carson commented, “I am honored to lead the Presidential Delegation on behalf of President Barack Obama to the inauguration of President Goodluck Jonathan of Nigeria. For over forty years, I have followed Nigeria’s progress towards democracy. I look forward to participating in Sunday’s inauguration; it marks the end of a historic election season and a new beginning for the Nigerian people as the work continues to build an accountable government and a prosperous, unified Nigeria.”
This will be Assistant Secretary Carson’s fifth visit to Nigeria since he took up his post in 2009.
