Hoyer Statement on U.S.-Panama Trade Promotion Agreement
WASHINGTON, DC - House Democratic Whip Steny H. Hoyer (MD) released the following statement today after U.S. Trade Representative Ron Kirk reported that outstanding issues around the U.S.-Panama Trade Promotion Agreement have been resolved, and the Administration is ready to move forward:
“I am pleased to hear that the U.S. and Panamanian governments have resolved outstanding issues around the U.S.-Panama Trade Promotion Agreement, and are ready to take the next steps to advance this Agreement. Panama remains a close and important ally in Latin America, and this Agreement will further strengthen our relationship. It will also open doors for American exports, which will help create more American jobs.
“I look forward to working with the Administration to move all three outstanding trade agreements – Panama, Korea, and Colombia – forward. It is also imperative that we extend expired provisions of the Trade Adjustment Assistance program promptly to help American workers who have lost their jobs due to trade.”
