Assistant Secretary for Political-Military Affairs Andrew J. Shapiro to Discuss the U.S. Approaches to Counter-Piracy

Assistant Secretary of State for Political-Military Affairs Andrew J. Shapiro will discuss U.S. efforts to further combat piracy off the coast of Somalia in response to increased attacks and violence on March 30, 2011, from 2:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m. in the Pierce Room of The Willard Intercontinental Hotel for the International Institute for Strategic Studies-U.S. (IISS-US).
Assistant Secretary Shapiro will highlight recent efforts to expand the range of options for bringing pirates to justice and for targeting those who organize, lead, and profit from piracy operations, as well as other elements of this comprehensive approach. Andrew Parasiliti, Executive Director, IISS-US, and Corresponding Director, IISS-Middle East, will provide introductory remarks and moderate the discussion and question and answer period. Assistant Secretary Shapiro’s remarks will launch the IISS-US Policy Makers Series.
This event is open to the public and the media.
