Under Secretary for Democracy and Global Affairs María Otero to Travel to the Dominican Republic

Under Secretary of State for Democracy and Global Affairs María Otero will travel to the Dominican Republic March 29-31 to discuss global issues related to citizen security. Deputy Assistant Secretary of State for Western Hemisphere Affairs Julissa Reynoso will accompany Under Secretary Otero on the trip.
During her visit, Under Secretary Otero will meet with senior government officials and international organizations on human rights, humanitarian and migration issues, trafficking in persons, environmental issues, and transparency. She will engage with leading civil society representatives and visit an education and community development project managed by USAID. They will also discuss illicit trafficking, public safety, and crime prevention objectives addressed through the Caribbean Basin Security Initiative.
As Under Secretary for Democracy and Global Affairs, Maria Otero oversees the bureaus of Population, Refugees and Migration; Democracy, Human Rights and Labor; Oceans and International Environmental and Scientific Affairs; the Office to Monitor and Combat Trafficking in Persons; and the Office of the Science and Technology Advisor. She also serves as the Special Coordinator for Tibetan Issues
