On behalf of President Obama and the people of the United States, I congratulate the people of Brunei Darussalam on your National Day this February 23.
Our relationship with Brunei dates back to the 1850 Treaty of Peace, Friendship, Commerce and Navigation. The United States and Brunei Darussalam continue to work together on a number of regional and global issues, from curbing global warming to improving regional security to combating terrorism.
The United States looks forward to continuing our close partnership and cooperation. As you celebrate 27 years of independence, know that the United States is a committed partner and friend. I wish Brunei Darussalam a safe and happy National Day celebration and continued peace and prosperity in the coming year.
