U.S. Delegation to the 55th Session of the UN Commission on the Status of Women

The Department of State is pleased to announce the U.S. Delegation attending the 55th Session of the UN Commission on the Status of Women, to be held from February 22 through March 4, 2011 at UN Headquarters in New York.
Ambassador Susan Rice, U.S. Permanent Representative to the United Nations, Co-Head of Delegation.
Ambassador Melanne Verveer, Ambassador-at-Large for Global Women’s Issues and Representative of the United States to the UN Commission on the Status of Women, U.S. Department of State, Co-Head of Delegation.
Ambassador Rick Barton, U.S. Representative on the UN Economic and Social Council, Alternate Representative.
Dr. Kerri-Ann Jones, Assistant Secretary of State for Oceans and International Environmental and Scientific Affairs, Alternate Representative.
They will be accompanied by six Public Delegates.
Dr. Gillian Bowser, Research Scientist, Natural Resource Ecology Laboratory, Colorado State University.
Ms. Geena Davis, Actress and Founder of the Geena Davis Institute on Gender in Media.
Dr. Mae Jemison, Founder and President of the Jemison Group, Inc. and Former NASA Astronaut.
Ms. Judith Lichtman, Senior Advisor and former President for the National Partnership for Women and Families.
Dr. Shirley M. Malcom, Head of Education and Human Resources at the American Association for the Advancement of Science.
Ms. Megan Smith, Vice President of New Business Development at Google.
Other members of the U.S. Delegation include technical experts from the Department of State, the United States Mission to the United Nations, and NASA, as well as a senior official from the White House.
The theme of this year’s session is “Access and participation of women and girls in education, training, science and technology, including for the promotion of women’s equal access to full employment and decent work.”
