Hoyer Statement on Steering and Policy Committee Hearing on Jobs

WASHINGTON, DC - Democratic Whip Steny H. Hoyer (MD) released the following statement after the House Democratic Steering and Policy Committee held a hearing regarding job creation and the importance of investing in infrastructure:
“This afternoon, House Democrats held an important hearing on the ongoing work of job-creation and economic recovery for the middle class. As President Obama has argued persuasively, wise investments in innovation, education, and infrastructure are essential to America’s economic competitiveness and to creating a future of well-paying jobs. That's why Democrats continue to work to pass the Make It In America agenda, legislation aimed at rebuilding America's manufacturing strength and middle-class opportunity. It's also why Democrats have helped states and cities across our country finance much-needed roads and bridges, water and sewer projects, hospitals, energy projects, public utilities, and more. These projects mean immediate jobs--but they also mean a strong foundation for future growth.
“I’m also glad that Maryland Governor Martin O’Malley had an opportunity to testify on the impact that Democratic recovery efforts and infrastructure investments have had on our State. Maryland communities have taken advantage of those investments, using 40 Build America Bonds to help them fund more than $3.4 billion in job-creating projects. Maryland is an example of the jobs we can create when we make smart investments in the foundations of growth, from infrastructure to education. It is essential that Congress continue to support those proven investments."
