Senator Roland Burris Statement on the Passage of the Wall Street Reform Bill
WASHINGTON, D.C. -- Senator Roland W. Burris issued the following statement following Senate passage of comprehensive Wall Street reform legislation:
"After a lengthy and vigorous debate, we have passed a comprehensive financial reform package that will protect Illinois families and American consumers while taking tangible steps to prevent another economic crisis," said Senator Burris. "The Wall Street reform bill will guard Americans from the unscrupulous business practices of many financial firms, and will end the culture of 'too big to fail' and taxpayer funded bailouts. Working families in Illinois will never again be asked to prop up irresponsible financial institutions with their hard-earned tax dollars. This historic piece of legislation creates the protections and accountability that our system sorely needs and ensures that working families" financial security will no longer be threatened by the recklessness of big banks on Wall Street."
The Senate bill passed yesterday by a vote of 59 to 39, and will now be merged with House of Representatives version before it is signed by the President.
